”I’m Not Doing the Same Things I Used To Do”

Yung Berg has grown up.

Despite his youth, the rapper who exploded onto the scene in 2008 has matured in his outlook and in his approach. His commercial success came relatively early, with his first two singles (“Sexy Lady” and “Sexy Can I”) both hitting the Top 20; but the burgeoning superstar quickly became just as famous for run-ins with other artists. From a brief war of words with R&B singer Ne-Yo, to chain-snatching incidents, to disputes with fellow rappers Maino and Soulja Boy–Berg’s reputation was beginning to overshadow his music.

But, undeterred, the Chicago-born emcee emerged re-focused and in 2011, is happy for what he’s been through and how it has helped him grow as a man and as an artist. “I was wild back in the day,” Berg tells HHB. “I was twenty years old with platinum records, multi-platinum records. Just wildin’ out. I’m twenty-four now. I’m not doing the same things I used to do, I’m not hanging around the same people I used to hang around. I’ve been able to grow up in front of the camera. Whether its good or bad, I just took all of the energy we created and translated it to my music.”

Musically, Berg’s talents are more at the forefront on his latest material. Both of his latest singles, “Sex N the City” and the Roscoe Dash-assisted “I See You,” feature Berg’s production skills. For all of the attention he’s gotten, it’s one facet of his musicianship that has gone unnoticed until now.

“It just wasn’t known,” Berg says. “When I came out…I didn’t know that I should have been in every interview saying ‘I produced this, I wrote this’ because I didn’t understand the magnitude of it.” Berg’s production and writing skills were featured on Dirty Money’s Last Train To Paris album.

“Artistically, you can create your own vibe for yourself,” he adds. “You don’t have to chase around a multi-platinum producer for them to give you what you want. And business-wise? You get that check. Pay me my money.”

Disgraced Pastor Has Midtown Penthouse Hideaway?

Photos have surfaced of embattled pastor Bishop Eddie Long and some of his ‘Long Fellows’ members in Long’s private Atlanta office. HipHopBlog.com has obtained these exclusive images just as more questionable details have surfaced in the ongoing controversy surrounding the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church pastor. HipHopBlog.com’s sources have revealed that there is a million dollar penthouse in the city’s midtown district that is allegedly owned by the famous mega-church reverend.

The source at the posh Twelve Atlantic Station cites several employees and residents that have noted that Long’s visitors at said location have predominantly been young men.

Long is expected to address allegations brought against him by four former congregation members that the pastor used his influence to coerce them into sexual relationships. He was expected to step down as New Birth pastor immediately thereafter, but reports have recently refuted that claim.

Pagen Elypsis is a collective of emcee’s from existing groups that emerged onto the scene with the release of the 007 Mixtape in 2007.  The members of the group had been performing as their separate components for 2 years both at home and interstate and also promoting and putting on shows in their hometown, Adelaide. The roots of the groups following lie in both the local live hip-hop scene and also the national and international battle circuit.

The group was on hiatus from 2007 while each of the members went about building their resumes & paying their dues. Between 2007-2010, Purpose released the If The City Had A Voice mixtape mixed by DJ Sum1 & DJ Next and Aforementioned (Purpose & Motive) released the well-received Red October, which brings us to 2010.
Pagen Elypsis released the 2010 mixtape to hail in the new decade mixed by DJ Kansel & DJ Snair of the Battlehoggs as a national free download which won praise in the underground but was merely a taste to prepare listeners for the album One Way Ticket officially dropping August 19, 2010.

With a few different release dates floating around the internet the lads over at Pagen Elypsis wanted to confirm the official release date for the album One Way Ticket will be August 19. The album will be available on itunes and all good independent stores nation-wide.

UGK Alum Talks Inspiration & Motivation

Southern rap godfather and UGK alum Bun B shared his thoughts on his upcoming Trill O.G. album, and revealed that, despite what seems to be a widening generation gap in hip-hop, he still finds inspiration in today’s music. “I just feel like this is the time when everybody needs something to motivate and inspire [them],” Bun explained. “I’m listening to Drake, i’m listening to Rick Ross. I’m listening to different people out here making music and [its] inspiring me.”

“I wanna make sure that i’m contributing to the game right now,” the rapper added. “We can’t just paint by numbers and phone it, we gotta activate this movement right now. For me, with UGK and everything that we’ve built up to this point, I feel like I have to put everything I got towards what we got going right now. I think we did a good job with this album.”

With Trill O.G. featuring posthumous appearances from his UGK partner Pimp C and the legendary 2Pac, a Notorious B.I.G. sample, Run-D.M.C. quotes and production from Gang Starr’s DJ Premier alongside guest appearances from Drake and Gucci Mane, there’s a subtle feeling that Bun crafted the album as a tribute to hip hop of yesterday and today. “In the process of this album, we saw there was opportunities to merge worlds. as far as the music that made me and the music that people are making today that’s inspired me. we had moments where we brought all these worlds together. As long as you’re keeping it trill, the public will appreciate it.”

Trill O.G. hits stores August 3rd.

Rapper Praises Fans, Talks Goodie MOB’s Future

Khujo Goodie’s unexpected arrest and even more unexpected release from prison seems to have rejuvenated the Atlanta rap veteran and his legendary crew, Goodie MOB. According to the rapper’s lawyer, Daniel Kane, Khujo, (born Willie Knighton Jr.), was convicted on three felony charges in two separate incidents: one for possession of a firearm and one for having marijuana in his possession. Due to a 1990 gun charge, prosecutors sentenced Khujo as a convicted felon. But the 1990 charge was legally void and, under the First Offender Act, should have been removed from Khujo?s record. This allowed Kane to get the rapper released from prison. “[That's] the Most High,” Khujo told HipHopBlog.com. “My family was with me. The Goodie MOB was with me. We went in there and showed them what was up, they gave me a bond and let me out.” The rapper was quick to credit fan support and his Dungeon Family partners for helping see him through the ordeal. “When times get tight, the family gets together,” he said. “Praise Jah.”

As far as the music, Khujo and his Goodie MOB bandmate Big Gipp assured fans that things are back on track now for the return of the beloved crew, who built their reputation in the mid-to-late 90s on the strength of two acclaimed LPs, Soul Food and Still Standing, that featured a socially-conscious and undeniably Southern point of view. “A lot of people have had their time and fun with the game, but its time for the elders to come back and lay the groundwork,” Gipp said. “If you know the Goodie MOB, you already know what we’re gonna come with. A lot of people out here are doing a lot music for a lot of different reasons; but if you can’t tour on your music, you ain’t said nothing. We’ll always be able to tour–for the rest of our life.”

“if it wasn’t for the type of music that we put out, I don’t think people would respect us like they respect us,” Khujo added. “Our thing is relating to the people; we’re just like the people. That’s who we are.” Gipp revealed, “We just released a mixtape called Stray Bullets, its got a Goodie MOB song on there called “Night Train.” Cee-Lo has a video coming for a song called “I Could’ve Loved You” featuring Eminem. We’re about to strategically start putting the album [together.] We’re not gonna discuss what label we’re on right now because we don’t want everybody bombarding them doors [laughs]. We just sitting back watching the news to see what we’re gonna come with.”
